Thomas M. Smith
is the president and founder of Global Earth Products. He is a graduate
of the University of Guelph and worked in the Crop Sciences Department
as a research technician prior to a long career in livestock and
crop farming. He spent eighteen years in elected positions in the
Canadian Pork Industry. These included three years as Chairman of
Ontario Pork, later Vice-president of Canada Pork International
and President of the Canadian Pork Council from 1990-1993. He brings
first hand experience and understanding of the livestock industry
and of the environmental and cost issues associated with nutrient
management.
Mr. Smith worked
very closely with staff at Ridgetown College; University of Guelph
in the development and testing of The Marvel automated composting
system since 1994. Mr Smith believes that environmental issues with
earth, air and water, can and must be addressed quickly.
In 1988, Smith
was one of 100 recipients who received the Ontario Government Centennial
Medal, for service to agriculture in the last century.
Smith is pleased
with the efforts and co-operation of Environment Canada and looks
forward to continuing efforts to make environment a global issue.
